ART
The art curriculum of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia is based on the National Standards for Art Education introducing each grade to the elements and principles of art. Students explore their creativity by experiencing a wide range of artists and their styles, media and techniques. The objective for these guidelines is to introduce and develop art skills while incorporating the elements of art and principles of design. It is suggested that this be achieved by familiarizing students with artists and art history. Our mission is to build an appreciation of art, teach skills, encourage confidence and creativity in producing art, and prepare students for high school art classes.
LIBRARY SKILLS
The ELA faculty strives to prepare students to become effective users of information and literate lifelong learners. The library curriculum serves as a framework for teaching research strategies; developing skills to analyze, evaluate, interpret, and communicate information and ideas; fostering an appreciation for literature, promoting reading for pleasure, and encouraging independent learning experiences. This framework acknowledges the gospel message and nurtures our Catholic heritage.
MUSIC
The Music curriculum of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia is designed to broaden a student's general knowledge of basic musical skills and concepts at all levels of elementary education. Through participation in the music program, students are lead in a deeper appreciation of liturgy, ethnic cultures, and musical styles. Music holds a prominent place in the spectrum of Arts and is of paramount importance in the development of the whole child.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
As Catholic Educators, we are committed to teaching the whole child - academically, spiritually and physically. Through the physical education program students will be encouraged to grow, challenge themselves, and foster their individual talents to be the best Christians they can be. Teaching the value of physical activity and its contribution to a healthy, active lifestyle is integral to our goal of lifelong fitness.
SPANISH
This curriculum promotes the mental attitude of acceptance and respect for other cultures; the self-confidence to seek to communicate with others in settings within and beyond the school, a familiarity with the theory and tools of language learning; the elementary skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in a limited manner in Spanish; a foundation for success and mastery of the language in high school classes.
